About

AK says himself that these works are not all the highest peaks of the Western canon, but they all share their origin in conservative values. But we're not always ready to scale high peaks: and to paraphrase J S Mill talking about Free Speech, unless surrounded by lesser hills we'd never know the high peaks for what they are. There are even some actual swamps among AK's choices, just for scale.

I've put a short quote from AK by each entry, talking about his selection. Some are proper Klavanisms - usually something funny or theological. Otherwise it's a description or a quote from the work.

AK often picks a theme for a week, which I've gathered up into links at the top of the list.

Here's a network map of the list as at episode 220: a whole continent of art, with a ghost story at its heart..

Hope you enjoyed looking at the site!

  1. Great site! I often refer to when I miss a show or have forgotten something I've heard. Any chance you know of someone who's done Ben's "Stuff I Like"?

    1. I don't. I'm a listener to his podcast but I don't think he has the cultural scope AK does. It would be a project though to compile that list, and worth doing - probably AK's picks look a bit random in isolation, like any item taken from a collection, but the whole is more than the sum of the parts.
